Crafting exceptional Pinot Noir is all about one thing: location.
Carneros, Sonoma County
Toro Hills
Toro (Spanish for Bull) Hills is part of the historic Donnell Ranch property located in the southwestern corner of Sonoma County’s Carneros AVA. Now managed by the Sangiacomo family, this vineyard is on the farthest westward edge of the Sonoma Carneros appellation on a gentle eastward facing slope. While it shares a climate cooled by fog from the bay, the defining factor that sets this vineyard apart is its extraordinary winds. Because of these winds, temperatures are lowered, extending the growing season, and allowing our grapes to develop sugar and flavor more slowly.
Russian River Valley, Sonoma County
Huckleberry Snodgrass
The Huckleberry Snodgrass Vineyard is located in the Russian River Valley AVA. Sun drenched days with foggy evenings make it a perfect vineyard to vinify opulent Pinot Noir. The soil composition is layered with Goldridge loam soil and sand, allowing for a perfectly drained vineyard. The roots reach for the water table and its nutrients, resulting in a more opulent wine with very lush tannins—a perfect combination for the Cherry Pie Pinot Noir winemaking approach.
Los Carneros, Sonoma County
San Pablo Bay Block
Tucked within a larger vineyard estate in Napa Valley’s Carneros AVA are several blocks of vines producing singularly distinctive Pinot Noir. Marine-influenced by morning fog from the San Pablo Bay just to the south and the cool evening wind gap from the Pacific Ocean farther to the west, the blocks are sheltered in a rolling swale which warms considerably during the daytime. As a result of this dramatic diurnal shift, the grapes display lush, ripe fruit balanced with bright acidity. Cherry Pie San Pablo Bay Block Pinot Noir is produced from this site.
California
Tri-County
Combining three counties, each in its own AVA, Cherry Pie Pinot Noir showcases the best of each county’s unique flavor profile. The Napa County grapes are sourced from Carneros which is the coolest of the three climates and provides bright earthy red fruit to the blend. San Luis Obispo’s climate generated by the proximity to the Pacific Ocean is vital for the freshness and vibrancy of this wine. The vineyards are located just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, with a very long, cool growing season. The Santa Barbara County grapes benefit from sandy soils, bright sunshine and cool ocean breezes which combine to lengthen fruit ripening and extend hang time, resulting in intense aromatics and bright acidity.
